How do I sign up for classes?
For entering students, you need to attend a summer advising/registration session by going to: http://waterbury.uconn.edu/newhusky/advising1.htm
At this session you will work with an advisor on picking out classes. Once you have a schedule, you will not be able to change it until July 9, 2008. If you want to make changes you:
- Go to www.waterbury.uconn.edu
- Click on Student Admin. System (Peoplesoft)
- Type your peoplesoft number in (User ID) and enter your password and sign in
- Click on SA Self Service- Learner Services- Academics –Enroll in a class
- Then click on the term
Enrollment Appointment Time
For each subsequent semester you will need to know your appointment time. This is the date you can begin accessing the PeopleSoft system to register for classes. The appointment time is within your PeopleSoft account. To access this information, follow these steps:
- Go to http://www.studentadmin.uconn.edu
- Enter your PeopleSoft Login ID and Password
- Once the page loads, click on SA Self Service
- Then click on Learner Services
- Then click on Academics
- Finally, click on View Enrollment Appointment
Where are my classes located?
Classes are located on the 2nd and 3rd floor of the Waterbury Campus. All 200 room numbers are on the 2nd floor and all 300 room numbers are on the 3rd floor. Labs are located on the third floor. All the classes are located in the one building.
What degree programs can be completed here on the Waterbury campus or between the tri-campus?
Undergraduate students may complete one of the following four-year degree programs exclusively at the Waterbury campus, or through the UConn Tri-Campus partnership, which combines course offerings at UConn's Greater Hartford, Torrington and Waterbury locations:

How accessible are professors, if help is needed?
Most professors will tell you when their office hours are during the first week of classes. The offices of full-time faculty are usually located here on campus across from the classrooms. Adjunct faculty do not have offices. They will most likely use their classroom as their office hours before class or use the adjunct office on the third floor across from room 333.
How large are classes?
Students at UConn Waterbury enjoy smaller classes and a more intimate campus environment. With a low student to faculty ratio, students are able to engage in frequent classroom discussions with the school's distinguished faculty. Most classes on the Waterbury Campus range from 20-30 students, however there are also bigger classrooms with about 80-90 people.
Is it difficult to campus change to another regional campus?
Students can change from one regional campus to another by simply visiting the Registrar’s Office in the 2nd floor Student Services suite and filling out a campus change form.
I would like to switch to the Storrs Campus.
Students are permitted to campus change to the Storrs Campus only after fulfilling their programmatic requirements at the Waterbury Campus. For most majors this is two years (54 credits). For questions, see Dr. Brown in the Student Services suite on the 2nd Floor.
How can I apply to switch majors?
Students that would like to switch their major should speak see Dr. Brown in the Student Services suite on the 2nd Floor. Depending on your situation you may be able to easily change your major by completing a major change form. For some majors there is a petitioning process that may only occur once or twice a year.
What is the workload like for most classes?
This all depends on what courses you take. All professors have a different curriculum and way of structuring their class. Most classes will have weekly readings, possibly homework problems and a series of quizzes, tests and exams. Students that stay on top of their assignments usually perform better in their course.
Are the students very connected with the professors?
It is up to the individual student to take advantage and interact with their professor.

What type of academic support is there at this campus?
Students can use the library, writing center, math center, peer tutoring assistance, computer labs, counseling services, and career services.
Math Center: Assistance is available to all students who need extra help in mathematics and statistics courses. Students having problems with any materials from basic algebra to calculus.
Writing Center: The Waterbury Writing Center provides a friendly environment in which students may develop their essays with the assistance of professional and peer tutors.
What is available for internships?
There is a binder in the 2nd floor of the campus in the student services. It is also located at the front desk to the right as you walk in. It has all available jobs/internships. You can also talk to susan.hyde-wick@uconn.edu, from the Office of Career Services, or your advisor for more help.

What clubs can I get involved in?
- (ASG) Associated Student Government
- UConn Theater run by Tony Angorano
- PRLASO which stands for Puerto Rican Latin American Student Organization.
- You can even make your own!
How can I start a club?
It is very easy to start a new club at the Waterbury Campus. See Jim Long, Student Activities Coordinator, in the 2nd Floor Student Services suite for information.
Do we have intramurals?
Yes we do! Over the past two semesters we have had flag football. Teams must be co-ed. There is a trophy located in the student lounge with the name of the winners from each semester. Get your friends together for some fun! We plan on increasing our intramurals to kickball and even waffle ball. So be on the lookout.
What is there to do between classes?
There is a student lounge with a pool table and foosball table. There are tables on the first floor main concourse to hang out with friends. In the courtyard we have room for kickball, wiffleball, football, or any sport or activity you can think of. You can bring your own gear or you can check equipment out of the student lounge.
What kind of sports can you play at the Waterbury Campus?
There are no competitive sports teams here at the Waterbury Campus,

What activities usually happen at UConn?
(ASG) Associated Student Government runs events all throughout the semester. There is everything from comedians, singers, live karaoke band, free food, game shows, and many more. ASG also sponsors community service programs and lectures. See you at the events!
What times are events at UConn Waterbury held?
Most events are held during the day. The majority are during the break period 12:30PM -2:00PM. We do have the occasional night events as well.
How can I get involved in student government (ASG) and what is it?
Associated Student Government (ASG) is the largest student groups on campus. ASG is responsible for many programs and events on campus. ASG serves as the voice of the students.

Is there an opportunity to engage in community service?
Most community service is done through classes right now, however you can get involved with ASG. ASG does turkey drives, mardi gross, safe haven, and many other community service events. Just because you are not in ASG doesn’t mean you can’t help out with these events and get community service credit for it.
Food
Where can we eat around here?
The Co-op (bookstore) has increased its food offerings. They carry everything from sandwiches and wraps from local delis, to hot dogs, and numerous snacks and beverages.
Right on East Main Street there are lots of places to eat from Chinese, Pizza, Subway, Dunkin Donuts, Diners, and many more.
Which places have discounts for UConn students?
The Chinese restaurant gives UConn students a free soda with their purchase.

Find your Advisor
Your adviser's name is within your PeopleSoft account [PLEASE NOTE: new students will not have an advisor assigned to them until the beginning of the Fall 2008 semester.] To access this information, follow these steps:

For most advisors you need to speak with them or email them for an advising appointment. However, there is an online system which allows you to make appointments online with the following advisors:

Parking Information

Where is parking at the Waterbury Campus?
RAMP GARAGE
At the Waterbury campus, we ask that you park on the second or third level of the UConn ramp garage, located on North Elm Street. Level One is reserved for faculty, staff and visitors only. Handicap parking spaces are located on each level. Failure to park in a designated student spot will result in a parking fine, which appears on your student fee bill after 30 days. The University provides the ramp garage for student convenience. However, spaces are not guaranteed and during busy times on campus (particularly on weekday mornings), students should allow extra time before class to park at the Scovill Street Garage as needed.
Where do we park if the Waterbury Campus garage is full?
SCOVILL STREET GARAGE
Additional UConn parking is available free of charge on the fifth or sixth level of the Scovill Street Garage, located across the street from campus behind the Waterbury Arts Magnet School (WAMS). In order to use the Scovill Street garage, students must display a valid UConn-Waterbury parking decal.

Do the UConn police patrol the ramp garage?
UConn police patrol the UConn ramp garage on a regular basis. UConn police can escort students to their cars at any time, including to the Scovill Street Garage. There are "blue box" emergency phones located throughout the UConn garage that are linked directly to the Waterbury police switchboard.
Do I need a parking decal to park in the ramp garage or Scovill Street Garage?
The parking charge automatically appears on your fee bill at the beginning of the fall semester. In order to obtain a parking decal, all students must complete a Student Vehicle Registration Form, available online or in the Student Services Suite. Completed forms should be returned to the Student Services Suite. Parking decals are available beginning in early August. New students can complete this process during New Student Orientation.
All students must complete a new Student Vehicle Registration Form each academic year.
The UConn Waterbury parking decal is valid at any regional campus as well as at the Storrs campus, provided that students park in designated student parking areas as posted.
Do the police ticket illegally parked cars?
UConn police patrol the UConn ramp garage on a regular basis and will issue tickets for parking violations. Students may appeal a parking ticket by completing a Parking Appeals Form, available in the Student Services Suite. The Parking Appeals Committee reviews all appeals.

How many students are on this campus?
There are over 1,000 students attending the Waterbury Campus.

During the academic year the computer lab is open during the regular hours of the building operation.
What kinds of scholarships are available?
The Waterbury Campus offers a number of scholarships for both current undergraduates as well as incoming freshman. All scholarship forms are available online beginning in January 2009.
How does the UConn discount work at the palace theatre?
Students purchasing tickets at the Palace Theatre receive a 10% discount. Also, depending on ticket availability, there is student rush tickets at 50% off beginning one hour from the performance start time.

What is my PeopleSoft number?
PeopleSoft: The system which allows students to register for classes, view and print a schedule, and view their grades from any computer via HTML. Access to the system requires the use your PeopleSoft number (sometimes referred to as your logon ID) and a password.
What is my netID?
NetID: This is the Network Identifier (account) that UConn issues to allow you access to certain computing services such as your Huskymail and HuskyCT.
What can I use my HuskyOne card for?
UConn Student ID (HuskyOne Card)
Every entering UConn student is issued a personalized University of Connecticut ID card (HuskyOne Card). Your University ID (HuskyOne Card) is used for a number of purposes, including:
- Identification
- Library Usage
- Entrance into University events (at any campus)
- Discounts offered by non-University businesses
- As a debit card for purchases at the Co-op and for printing at the library and computer lab
Your University of Connecticut Student ID is provided at no cost, but a $15.00 charge is levied for replacement IDs. ID pictures will be taken at your summer advising/registration session (Click here to sign-up for your advising/registration date and time). The Student IDs will be distributed during the New Student Orientation Program on Thursday, August 21, 2008.

What is Huskymail?
Huskymail is your UConn email address. You use your NetID to sign in. It is used by many University offices to notify you of important information such as financial aid, registration, health insurance and immunization non-compliance, and overdue library books. The Waterbury Campus uses Huskymail to notify you about class and or school cancellations, events on campus, scholarships and many other important things. It is VERY important to check your UConn Huskymail a few times a week.
