Scholarships for Incoming Students

Application Opens February 1, 2025.

Dr. Martin S. DeSomma Scholarship

One $300 scholarship is available.

Eligibility:

  • Connecticut high school senior
  • Entering UConn Waterbury full-time for fall 2024 semester
  • Committed to continuing full-time for spring 2025
  • Award based on financial need, character, and achievement

Requirements:

  • Letter of recommendation from high school teacher

Katherine Hill Pomeroy Scholarship

Seven $1,500 scholarships are available.

Eligibility:

  • Connecticut high school senior
  • Entering UConn Waterbury full-time for fall 2024 semester
  • Committed to continuing full-time for spring 2025
  • Award based on financial need, character, and achievement

Requirements:

  • Letter of recommendation from high school teacher

Rose Finkelstein Scholarship

Two $800 scholarships are available.

Eligibility:

  • High school senior at a Waterbury public school
    Students from Kaynor Tech, Waterbury Career Academy, and Waterbury Magnet School must be Waterbury residents.
  • Entering UConn Waterbury full-time for fall 2024 semester
  • Committed to continuing full-time for spring 2025
  • Award based on financial need, character, and achievement

Requirements:

  • Letter of recommendation from high school teacher

Aburdene Family Scholarship

In Memory of Olga and Felix Aburdene

Two $1,000 scholarships are available.

Eligibility:

  • UConn Waterbury undergraduate student
  • Enrolled at least half-time for fall 2024 with plans to continue full-time for spring 2025
  • Award based on financial need, academic achievement, and community involvement
  • Priority to first-generation students

Requirements:

  • Letter of recommendation from a UConn Waterbury faculty member

Renewal Opportunity:

  • May be renewed annually provided satisfactory academic progress is achieved and all criteria continue to be met

Aburdene Family Scholarship

Honoring Phillip Benevento

Two $1,000 scholarships are available.

Eligibility:

  • UConn Waterbury undergraduate student
  • Enrolled at least half-time for fall 2024 with plans to continue full-time for spring 2025
  • Award based on financial need, academic achievement, and community involvement
  • Priority to students taking coursework in the humanities or social sciences

Requirements:

  • Letter of recommendation from a UConn Waterbury faculty member

Renewal Opportunity:

  • May be renewed annually provided satisfactory academic progress is achieved and all criteria continue to be met

Alphonse and Ruth Ann Avitabile & Dr. Martin DeSomma Scholarship

One $800 scholarship is available.

Eligibility:

  • UConn Waterbury first-year student
  • Continuing full-time at UConn Waterbury for fall 2024 and spring 2025
  • Award based on academic achievement and financial need

Requirements:

  • Letter of recommendation from a UConn Waterbury faculty member

DeSomma-Bessette Scholarship

Two $1,000 scholarships are available.

Eligibility:

  • UConn Waterbury undergraduate student
  • Enrolled at least half-time for fall 2024 with plans to continue full-time for spring 2025
  • Award based on financial need

Requirements:

  • Letter of recommendation from a UConn Waterbury faculty member

Renewal Opportunity:

  • May be renewed annually provided satisfactory academic progress is achieved and all criteria continue to be met

Dougan Family Scholarship

One $1,000 scholarship is available.

Eligibility:

  • UConn Waterbury undergraduate student
  • Enrolled full-time or part-time at UConn Waterbury for fall 2024 and spring 2025
  • Award will be given to a student who has made an impactful contribution to the UConn Waterbury Campus community

Requirements:

  • Letter of recommendation from a UConn Waterbury faculty or staff member

Katherine Hill Pomeroy Scholarship

Three $2,500 scholarships are available.

Eligibility:

  • UConn Waterbury student
  • Enrolled full-time for fall 2024 with plans to continue full-time for spring 2025
  • Must have completed a minimum of 12 credits at UConn Waterbury
  • Award based on financial need, academic achievement, and community involvement

Requirements:

  • Letter of recommendation from a UConn Waterbury faculty member

Leonard and Mildred Insogna & Alphonse Avitabile Scholarship

Two $1,000 scholarships are available.

Eligibility:

  • UConn Waterbury undergraduate student
  • Enrolled full-time for fall 2024 with plans to continue full-time for spring 2025
  • Award based on academic achievement

Requirements:

  • Letter of recommendation from a UConn Waterbury faculty member

Renewal Opportunity:

  • May be renewed annually provided satisfactory academic progress is achieved and all criteria continue to be met

Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarship

One $1,000 scholarship is available.

Eligibility:

  • UConn Waterbury undergraduate student
  • Enrolled full-time for fall 2024 with plans to continue full-time for spring 2025
  • Award based on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) and community involvement

Requirements:

  • Letter of recommendation from a part-time or full-time UConn Waterbury faculty member

UConn Waterbury Scholarship

Two $800 scholarships are available.

Eligibility:

  • UConn Waterbury student
  • Must have completed a minimum of 36 credits at UConn Waterbury
  • Continuing at UConn for the following academic year
  • Award is based on academic achievement, financial need, and extracurricular activities (related to school, church, and community service) (Award made on competitive basis, so student need not be strong in all three categories to apply.)

Requirements:

  • Letter of recommendation from a UConn Waterbury faculty member

UConn Waterbury Summer Scholarship

Six $1,500 scholarships are available.

Eligibility:

  • UConn Waterbury undergraduate student
  • Enrolled in a summer session at UConn Waterbury

Requirements:

  • Letter of recommendation from a part-time or full-time UConn Waterbury faculty member
