Tutoring Center
The Tutoring Center provides academic services for all UConn Waterbury students. Tutoring is available for several courses, including many of the first-year STEM courses such as Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Organic Chemistry, Physics, and Psychology.
A study and life skills coordinator can also assist students with test-taking preparation, note-taking strategies, study skills, time management techniques, and more.

The Writing Center
The Writing Center at UConn Waterbury assists students with essays, lab reports, term papers, academic or creative writing, multimodal projects, résumés, cover letters, and personal statements. Professionally trained peer tutors help students understand writing assignments, organize ideas, fine-tune thesis statements, develop more effective sentences, organize paragraphs, prepare citations, and more.
Types of Tutoring
In-Person Tutoring – Tutor and client are present together at the Writing Center.
Online (Synchronous) Tutoring – Tutor and client are present simultaneously in an online workspace via WCOnline.
Appointments
Appointments are recommended for both in-person and online tutoring. Drop-ins are welcome if a tutor is available.
Tutoring sessions are approximately 1 hour. They combine discussion of the writer’s goals and some writing that contributes to the completion of the assignment.

Monday: 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. (In-Person or Online)
Tuesday: 10:30 a.m. - 3 p.m. (In-Person or Online)
Wednesday: 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. (In-Person or Online)
Thursday: 10:30 a.m. - 3 p.m. (In-Person or Online) & 5-6 p.m. (Online Only)
Friday: 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. (Online Only)
Note: On November 11 and December 2, Monday hours will be 10-11 a.m. and 12-4 p.m.
Interested in Becoming a Writing Center Tutor?
Our Writing Center is looking for student tutors. The ideal applicant is someone with the following characteristics and qualifications:
- Good academic standing
- Any semester or major, but sophomores particularly encouraged
- Excellent writing and interpersonal skills
- Completed First-Year Writing (English 1007, 1010 or 1011) at UConn and received at least a B
- Can produce a writing sample (of at least five pages) that demonstrates the use of several texts
- Willing and able to commit approximately four hours per week to tutoring once trained
We pay $16.69 per hour to students who have been trained and are fully committed to working in the Writing Center.
